According to data stated in EUROSTAT, in October 2009, the rate of youthful unemployment (smaller than 25 years), was 20´6% in the Euro area and 20´7% in the UE27. Unemployment in the young people is the double that the one in adults in Europe, this is one of the main causes of poverty and social exclusion.
The European Pact by Youth insists on the positive role that young people can and must carry out to fulfill the objectives of Lisbon. These objectives only can be reached if young people are properly equipped with knowledge, abilities and skills, through a high quality in education and formation.
